It’s official: Palm Beach News Guild is pursuing an election to unionize newsroom workers at The Palm Beach Post and The Palm Beach Daily News.
The NewsGuild‘s lawyers filed for an election with the National Labor Relations Board on Friday. The NewsGuild and the corporate owner of The Post and The Daily News, Gannet, will negotiate an election date.
Although more than 85 percent of non-management newsroom employees have signed union authorization cards, Gannett has declined to voluntarily recognize our union.
USA TODAY Network President Maribel Wadsworth said on Thursday that the company wants to give all employees a chance to vote by secret ballot.
Gannett, which also owns USA TODAY, is delaying the inevitable.
Once an election date is set, we will post an update.
Anyone who wants to follow our NLRB case can bookmark it on the board’s website.
